Managed to hook up with some good friends before they left for their holiday back in the UK. The boys enjoyed some football and basketball in the garden while the rest of us were indoors escaping the heat.

Palace of the Golden Horses, Malaysia - 2nd-3rd August 2009
A brief stay at the hotel – one night. The hotel was comfortable, the food good – though the Chinese restaurant there proved to be a very expensive experience – and the swimming pool excellent; the boys really enjoyed the water slides. The next day we had a go on the recumbent bikes which was great fun.

FRIM, Malaysia – 2nd August 2009
A trip to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) included a long walk in the forest up to the canopy walkway. Please note that you need to purchase a ticket for the walkway from the One Stop Centre near the car park. We didn’t but luckily the lady controlling entrance to the walkway was kind enough to trust us to pay for the tickets when we got back down the hill.
KL Tower, Malaysia – 31st July 2009
After Batu Caves we visited a Batik “factory” and then a pewter “factory”. Unfortunately they were basically shops that gave a brief guide to what they make – less than five minutes in the case of the Batik factory – and then take you into the shop. If you really want to find out how these local goods are produced then a bit of research before hand is advised!
After these and a spot of lunch we went on to the KL Tower:
At the base of the tower they had some other attractions including an F1 simulator which was pretty good fun; though you only got a couple of laps so it was over too quickly.
Batu Caves, Malaysia - 31st July 2009
The boys hadn't been to the Batu Caves so this was our first stop on a sightseeing day out.

A good sports day for Matthew as he won all his races: the 70 metre sprint, the relay and the ball-in-the-basket.

District Sports
Matthew represented his school – Lakeside Primary - in the district sports competition. He competed in the long jump, 60 metre spring and the sprint relay. He won the 60 metre sprint – the picture below shows him winning his heat – and his team won their relay heat but the final was cancelled due to bad weather.
