While the rest of the family was off visiting relatives I took the opportunity to visit the Battlebox in Fort Canning Park. This was an underground communications bunker used during the Second World War. More information will appear, at some point, in my blog.

Sentosa Island, Singapore – 13th August 2009
We visited Sentosa two years ago when we were last in Singapore but it was such good fun that we decided to visit again. Only one new attraction – the Gogreen Segway “advanced mobility device” – and that was pretty good fun. I managed to get the boys to look around Fort Siloso which I found very interesting and they didn’t complain too much – more pictures and information will be posted, eventually on my blog. There’s lots of construction underway on the island – see the background in the picture of the Sentosa Express monorail – so there should be a lot more to see and do the next time we are in Singapore; probably 2011 though maybe earlier than that.
Singapore – 12th-15th August 2009
A short trip down to Singapore. Stayed at the very comfortable Marina Mandarin hotel – excellent swimming pool and close to shops, restaurants and the MRT.
Views from the hotel and of the swimming pool:
Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia – 10th August 2009
A day at Sunway Lagoon unfortunately cut a bit short by a thunderstorm in the late afternoon.
Langkawi, Malaysia – 6th-9th August 2009
A family trip to Langkawi - we hadn’t been there before – spoilt, a little, by the weather; because of the high winds we were not able to do any of the island-hopping trips and the cable-car to Mount Mat Cincang was not in operation. As you will see below, fog and low cloud also affected the views from Gunung Raya.
We stayed at the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort hotel in the chalets which were nice and roomy; the air-con was not that good though as it took a day or so to get the temperature down to a comfortable level. The buffet was excellent with a wide range of dishes and food cooked to order. Due to the weather we spent a lot of time in the hotel – mainly enjoying the nice pool though the ladies also made good use of the sauna and Jacuzzi.
The chalets at the Sheraton and the path along the coast to the main hotel complex, swimming pool and pool table:

Visiting Friends in Subang Jaya, Malaysia – 4th August 2009
Managed to hook up with some good friends before they left for their holiday back in the UK. The boys enjoyed some football and basketball in the garden while the rest of us were indoors escaping the heat.
Palace of the Golden Horses, Malaysia - 2nd-3rd August 2009
A brief stay at the hotel – one night. The hotel was comfortable, the food good – though the Chinese restaurant there proved to be a very expensive experience – and the swimming pool excellent; the boys really enjoyed the water slides. The next day we had a go on the recumbent bikes which was great fun.
